Vinyl  A-L

AGINCOURT - Fly Away
(ACME-UK) 1970; Excellent psychedelic folk-rock. An ultra-rare privately-pressed demo-album by the same group of people responsible for Alice Through The Looking Glass and Tomorrow Come Some Day. This particular album is folkier than Ithaca, for example, but like the latter still has a strong Moody Blues influence, particularly on the best track Through The Eyes Of A Lifetime, which begins with a poem and ends with some lovely piano-dominated instrumentation. The opening cut When I Awoke is a very pleasant folky number with some lovely female vocals. Next up is Though I May Be Dreaming, which has a gorgeous acoustic: ( 22 €)

ALRUNE ROD - same
(Little Wing /G) 1969 First album of Denmark progressive rock band. Highly recommended for fans of heavy psych/progressive. with fantastic guitar work / organ pumping psychy vocals, comparable in parts to ARCADUIM.( 22 €)

AMIGOS DE MARIA - Rock
(TPT / CHILE) South American Import. Vinyl reissue of absolutely incredible Chilean group who recorded this amazing album in 1968,though it wasn't released until 1973.The finest and purest garagey Psychedelia you can imagine, starting with opening track of 10 minutes called "Vuelva a Comenzar", which track has wild punding drums and great aggressive guitar riffs plus weird demented vocals ,sitting the trend for the album that also includes great cover versions of "The Letter" and Ray Charles "What I'd say". No Lo-Fi mid-60's garage, but top-level well produced psychedelia: ( 22 € )

ANALOGY - same
(Ohrwaschl-G) From Mastertape and Limited edition, plus big poster: German/Italian progressive rock, long jamming tracks with Hammond and guitar space outs, female vocal. ( 20 € )

A-AUSTR - Music from the Holyground
(RE-Holyground-UK)Legit limited reissue in the original sleeve of this UK-Underground psychedelic/folk monster from 1970: Spine tingling acid guitar/folk magic sound. With an issue of only 99 copies, this is one of the rarest records to emerge from the UK that contains some interesting music. The elaborate packaging and the general care which went into the record betray, if nothing else, at least a heartfelt love of recorded music as a means of self-expression. Being a low-budget enterprise, a fact which is never really masked throughout the production, A-Austr went for diversity rather than sales figures. The music is strongly eclectic, with more influences than can be listed. No less than 15 tracks within a broad spectrum of styles can hardly be unanimously satisfying. In general the music is gentle and even folky, without drawing upon traditional material. At its best it's nothing less than brilliant, though in an unobtrusive sort of way. These highlights include almost all the songs which do not try to be "progressive" or severely emotional, but which instead opt for a simpler approach, thereby succeeding to convey a subtle and almost mythical atmosphere. As soon as the instrumentation gets denser, the sound tends to clog up or even becomes chaotic, being charming still, but nothing more than that. Definitely a very interesting record, though it's near to impossible to dig up an original. A few years ago a limited repro was manufactured, which now sells for a collector's price itself and is worth picking up.( 28 € )

AUGUST - same
(Shadoks /G) Reissue of another unknown US beauty. Recorded in 1968. AUGUST played a lot of small clubs, and one of the club owners gave them the chance to record their own album. GLORY - On the Air
(Rockadelic /US) Glory was probably San Diego's longest-lived underground rock band. Formed in the late sixties, Glory played their brand of straight ahead, kick ass rock and roll until the early 80's at which time guitarist Jerry Raney formed the prolific Beat Farmers. "On The Air" was recorded live in 1970 during a broadcast from the studios of San Diego's "underground" radio station KPRI. The result is an "in your face" performance built around their amazing rhythm section and led by wailing guitars and incredibly powerful vocals. Great original tunes like "Morning Ride", "Slow Back" and "Another Man Done Gone" shows that these boys were street wise and nail tough. They also do justice to classic rock tunes like Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love" which they transform into what sounds like an evil threat from a serial killer. Overall the LP is dark but energetic and shows why Glory earned their well deserved reputation as rock and roll mercenaries. ( 33 € )

ISRAEL, DANNY, BEN - Bullshit 3 ¼
(1969/1970) By 1969 Danny Ben Israel recorded a Psychedelic MASTERPIECE of an album "Bullshit 3.1/4". This revolutionary ground breaking album is largely unknown, however the few people who know this GEM consider it to be one of the greatest Psych albums of all times and original vinyl copies of this album change hands for hundreds of dollars. The uniqueness of this album lies not only in its music - also the weird and obscure pornographic foldoutcover artwork and the sometimes very trippy lyrics deal with the Israeli society and its hypocrisy, the fake emptiness of the Bohemian way of life, drugs, escapism and freaks. The most obvious theme reflected in his lyrics is the wish for freedom of all kinds (freedom of thought, freedom of expression and so on). The music itself mixes psych and avant-garde, full of fuzzed out and distorted guitars, studio effects, tape loops, tone generators etc. Ben-Israel sings, a scream, murmurs, whispers and moans throughout all of the tracks. His vocals are often doubled and used as an instrument like Tim Buckley, Alan, Sorrenti, Robert Wyatt and Peter Hammill, but in a totally twisted manner. The whole album (backed by the band :"Electric Stage") sounds like a big LSD acid trip, sometimes very spacey and very heavy almost industrial. Also raga-based compositions remind of some early Daevid Allen stuff with Gong on his Banana Moon album. It´s a kind of weird Israeli "Jimi Hendrix" and collectors who have our Modulo 1000 album will be expressed by this 180g vinyl reissue with thick and original foldoutcover artwork from the original masters - strictly limited to 500 copies: ( 33 € )

ITHACA - A game for all who know
(ACME-UK) 1972/73 Release of the highly sought-after, revered and private pressing classic. Dreamy, pastoral folk-psych with male / female vocals. A very rare privately-pressed demo-only album which is heavily influenced by the early seventies Moody Blues sound. In other words, we're talking progressive pop/rock with quasi-mystical lyrics. Some will love it, others will feel it typifies all that's bad in the genre. Among the better moments are Dreams and Times. The individuals responsible for this had earlier been involved in Agincourt, Alice Through The Looking Glass and Tomorrow Come Some Day. ( 22 € )

IZUKAITZ - same
